Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Tobacco, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Media sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 3.01% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW), which rose 4.19% or 6.45 points to trade at 160.40 at the close. Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) added 4.18% or 130.0 points to end at 3241.0 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 4.17% or 57.50 points to 1436.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Unilever PLC (LON:ULVR), which lost 6.97% or 274.5 points to trade at 3662.0 in late trade. GMK Norilskiy Nikel PAO DRC (LON:NKELyq) declined 2.88% or 0.85 points to end at 28.64 and Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF) shed 1.33% or 150.0 points to 11125.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1154 to 747 and 459 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.13% or 2.35 to $1818.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.64% or 0.53 to hit $83.83 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.63% or 0.54 to trade at $86.60 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.17% to 1.3650, while EUR/GBP rose 0.19% to 0.8360.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 95.203.
