Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 2.67%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Sberbank Of Russia (LON:SBNCyq), which rose 14.85% or 1.40 points to trade at 10.80 at the close. BHP Group PLC (LON:BHPB) added 12.15% or 114.20 points to end at 1054.00 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) was up 10.31% or 306.0 points to 3274.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 9.93% or 128.0 points to trade at 1161.0 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 6.54% or 25.20 points to end at 360.00 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) shed 5.17% or 8.10 points to 148.55.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1216 to 1022 and 113 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 3.70% or 58.90 to $1531.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.90% or 0.60 to hit $32.10 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 3.16% or 1.05 to trade at $34.27 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.86% to 1.2337, while EUR/GBP rose 1.07% to 0.8989.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.12% at 98.555.
