Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Industrial Metals & Mining and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 2.63% to hit a new 1-month high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 16.47% or 164.1 points to trade at 1160.5 at the close. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) added 15.39% or 5.53 points to end at 41.45 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was up 12.71% or 12.42 points to 110.18 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which lost 1.60% or 26.50 points to trade at 1625.00 in late trade. Croda International PLC (LON:CRDA) declined 0.84% or 42.0 points to end at 4936.0 and Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RB) shed 0.81% or 52.0 points to 6402.0.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1636 to 560 and 120 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.58% or 10.05 to $1712.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 27.80% or 3.43 to hit $15.77 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 6.77% or 1.54 to trade at $24.28 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.16% to 1.2441, while EUR/GBP rose 0.26% to 0.8727.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 99.775.
