Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs, Household Goods & Home Construction and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.81%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND), which rose 9.08% or 29.50 points to trade at 354.30 at the close. Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) added 8.78% or 73.80 points to end at 914.00 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) was up 8.29% or 90.50 points to 1,182.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which lost 1.58% or 13.80 points to trade at 860.00 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 1.36% or 20.50 points to end at 1,486.50 and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq) shed 1.19% or 17.00 points to 1,414.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1275 to 442 and 443 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.04% or 0.85 to $1,981.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.32% or 0.24 to hit $75.90 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.34% or 0.27 to trade at $79.90 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.92% to 1.29, while EUR/GBP rose 0.65% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.42% at 100.05.
