Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.78% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which rose 11.28% or 11.95 points to trade at 117.88 at the close. Croda International PLC (LON:CRDA) added 7.43% or 462.0 points to end at 6684.0 and DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) was up 7.32% or 21.96 points to 322.06 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:SMT), which lost 6.11% or 66.30 points to trade at 1018.70 in late trade. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) declined 6.01% or 73.9 points to end at 1155.6 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) shed 5.26% or 120.00 points to 2164.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1386 to 964 and 52 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.58% or 29.35 to $1883.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.32% or 0.53 to hit $40.82 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.23% or 0.52 to trade at $42.92 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.44% to 1.3221, while EUR/GBP fell 0.39% to 0.8937.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 92.752.
