Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Transportation, Life Insurance/Assurance and Financial Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.77%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 7.27% or 45.80 points to trade at 676.00 at the close. Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICP) added 6.43% or 75.00 points to end at 1,241.50 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) was up 6.40% or 9.02 points to 150.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 3.93% or 29.20 points to trade at 714.80 in late trade. Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) declined 1.44% or 41.00 points to end at 2,808.00 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) shed 1.28% or 13.50 points to 1,043.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1271 to 564 and 427 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.97% or 39.10 to $1,943.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 2.49% or 1.69 to hit $69.51 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.95% or 1.44 to trade at $75.23 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.60% to 1.22, while EUR/GBP rose 1.03% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 102.95.
