Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Household Goods & Home Construction, Life Insurance/Assurance and Financial Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.74%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which rose 4.83% or 30.00 points to trade at 651.60 at the close. Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICP) added 4.12% or 45.50 points to end at 1,149.50 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 4.02% or 125.50 points to 3,249.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bunzl PLC (LON:BNZL), which lost 0.96% or 27.00 points to trade at 2,793.00 in late trade. Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq) declined 0.74% or 8.50 points to end at 1,133.50 and Halma PLC (LON:HLMA) shed 0.39% or 8.00 points to 2,048.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1309 to 466 and 470 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.00% or 0.05 to $1,825.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.72% or 2.07 to hit $78.30 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.83% or 2.26 to trade at $82.25 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.96% to 1.21, while EUR/GBP rose 0.80% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.36% at 103.98.
