Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Life Insurance/Assurance and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.46%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 6.88% or 91.50 points to trade at 1420.50 at the close. NK Rosneft PAO DRC (LON:ROSNq) added 5.30% or 0.40 points to end at 8.02 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) was up 4.73% or 19.40 points to 429.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT), which lost 1.49% or 42.0 points to trade at 2775.0 in late trade. United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) declined 1.29% or 13.50 points to end at 1030.50 and National Grid PLC (LON:NG) shed 1.12% or 10.70 points to 947.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1390 to 635 and 404 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.06% or 1.15 to $1779.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.97% or 1.39 to hit $71.88 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.90% or 1.41 to trade at $75.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.03% to 1.3663, while EUR/GBP rose 0.13% to 0.8591.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 93.123.
