Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Transportation, Mining and Chemicals sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.39% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which rose 11.62% or 74.80 points to trade at 718.60 at the close. Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) added 10.16% or 506.00 points to end at 5,486.00 and Croda International PLC (LON:CRDA) was up 7.75% or 369.00 points to 5,132.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Relx PLC (LON:REL), which lost 3.35% or 106.00 points to trade at 3,063.00 in late trade. Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) declined 3.05% or 84.00 points to end at 2,672.00 and Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) shed 1.89% or 51.00 points to 2,650.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1286 to 396 and 457 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 2.80% or 55.95 to $2,053.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 3.81% or 2.65 to hit $72.12 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 3.73% or 2.77 to trade at $77.03 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.13% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.05% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.95% at 101.51.
