Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Banking, Industrial Metals & Mining and Food Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT), which rose 6.20% or 18.90 points to trade at 324.00 at the close. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) added 5.70% or 12.50 points to end at 231.70 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) was up 4.65% or 5.55 points to 125.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS), which lost 6.90% or 22.00 points to trade at 296.70 in late trade. National Grid PLC (LON:NG) declined 5.23% or 51.80 points to end at 939.20 and Coca Cola HBC AG (LON:CCH) shed 1.95% or 39.5 points to 1983.5.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1450 to 712 and 143 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.55% or 9.80 to $1789.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.00% or 0.40 to hit $40.22 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.38% or 0.58 to trade at $42.61 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.03% to 1.2467, while EUR/GBP fell 0.06% to 0.9012.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 97.263.
