Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Oil & Gas Producers and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 4.57% or 34.60 points to trade at 791.00 at the close. Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) added 4.28% or 79.50 points to end at 1936.50 and Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) was up 4.06% or 14.70 points to 376.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 3.09% or 26.80 points to trade at 840.80 in late trade. Old Mutual Ltd (LON:OMU) declined 3.00% or 3.66 points to end at 118.12 and National Grid PLC (LON:NG) shed 1.99% or 16.90 points to 832.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1589 to 684 and 94 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.46% or 5.60 to $1217.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.30% or 0.20 to hit $66.38 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.45% or 0.34 to trade at $76.25 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.43% to 1.2761, while EUR/GBP fell 0.64% to 0.8871.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 96.84.
