Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Automobiles & Parts and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.23% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which rose 6.99% or 103.5 points to trade at 1583.5 at the close. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) added 6.07% or 7.20 points to end at 125.85 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) was up 5.81% or 29.20 points to 532.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which lost 7.83% or 27.10 points to trade at 319.00 in late trade. Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) declined 4.69% or 19.30 points to end at 392.10 and Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT) shed 3.21% or 9.80 points to 295.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1461 to 713 and 154 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.42% or 7.10 to $1717.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 3.66% or 1.20 to hit $34.01 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 5.35% or 1.85 to trade at $36.45 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.73% to 1.2340, while EUR/GBP rose 0.09% to 0.8987.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.70% at 98.365.
