Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Electrical, Aerospace & Defense and Financial Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 5.59% or 84.4 points to trade at 1594.8 at the close. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) added 4.42% or 17.90 points to end at 422.70 and Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) was up 4.42% or 89.0 points to 2105.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO), which lost 2.68% or 169.0 points to trade at 6135.0 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 2.17% or 39.50 points to end at 1778.50 and Sberbank Of Russia (LON:SBNCyq) shed 1.30% or 0.21 points to 16.30.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1540 to 667 and 195 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.79% or 14.45 to $1838.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.05% or 1.31 to hit $65.13 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.09% or 1.40 to trade at $68.45 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.32% to 1.4095, while EUR/GBP rose 0.22% to 0.8613.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.44% at 90.332.
