Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which rose 5.48% or 10.80 points to trade at 207.90 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 5.20% or 89.00 points to end at 1802.00 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) was up 4.36% or 335.00 points to 8015.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA), which lost 1.94% or 11.400 points to trade at 577.300 in late trade. Informa Plc (LON:INF) declined 1.30% or 9.50 points to end at 721.00 and Shire PLC (LON:SHP) shed 1.07% or 56.00 points to 5189.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1494 to 683 and 417 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 1.17% or 15.55 to $1346.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 2.36% or 1.07 to hit $46.41 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.79% or 0.84 to trade at $47.67 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.41% to 1.3087, while EUR/GBP fell 0.06% to 0.8580.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.31% at 95.16.
