Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Life Insurance/Assurance, Electrical and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.07% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which rose 4.10% or 77.00 points to trade at 1953.50 at the close. Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) added 3.43% or 21.00 points to end at 632.60 and Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) was up 3.12% or 48.50 points to 1605.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which lost 2.95% or 3.70 points to trade at 121.85 in late trade. Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) declined 2.25% or 2.45 points to end at 106.20 and Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) shed 2.04% or 2.95 points to 141.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1269 to 847 and 293 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.01% or 0.15 to $1294.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.33% or 0.82 to hit $62.41 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.38% or 0.26 to trade at $69.27 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.52% to 1.3032, while EUR/GBP rose 0.35% to 0.8587.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 97.047.
