Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the General Retailers, Forestry & Paper and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.05% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which rose 5.22% or 108.00 points to trade at 2175.00 at the close. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) added 4.30% or 7.75 points to end at 188.00 and Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) was up 3.62% or 7.30 points to 208.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 3.73% or 27.20 points to trade at 703.00 in late trade. Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) declined 1.31% or 23.60 points to end at 1774.60 and Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) shed 0.76% or 16.00 points to 2084.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1321 to 806 and 215 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.53% or 8.05 to $1507.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.22% or 0.69 to hit $55.72 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.93% or 1.21 to trade at $61.53 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.12% to 1.2308, while EUR/GBP rose 0.34% to 0.8892.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 98.740.
