Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Life Insurance/Assurance, Household Goods & Home Construction and Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which rose 7.66% or 34.00 points to trade at 478.00 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 5.42% or 36.00 points to end at 700.60 and Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) was up 4.26% or 44.50 points to 1,089.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Next PLC (LON:NXT), which lost 4.34% or 292.00 points to trade at 6,434.00 in late trade. Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN) declined 1.10% or 12.50 points to end at 1,120.50 and Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) shed 0.44% or 8.50 points to 1,943.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1224 to 610 and 456 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.36% or 7.10 to $1,983.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.10% or 0.07 to hit $73.27 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.50% or 0.39 to trade at $77.75 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.24% to 1.23, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.15% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.27% at 102.38.
