Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Banking and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 4.87% or 32.60 points to trade at 702.40 at the close. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) added 4.12% or 21.00 points to end at 531.00 and BHP Group PLC (LON:BHPB) was up 3.98% or 91.50 points to 2,393.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG), which lost 1.92% or 106.00 points to trade at 5,412.00 in late trade. Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG) declined 1.48% or 31.00 points to end at 2,069.00 and Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) shed 1.00% or 8.00 points to 792.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1120 to 559 and 511 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.54% or 31.70 to $2,024.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 4.19% or 2.87 to hit $71.43 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 3.97% or 2.88 to trade at $75.38 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.57% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.38% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 100.98.
