Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil & Gas Producers and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN), which rose 6.92% or 101.00 points to trade at 1560.00 at the close. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) added 6.53% or 17.55 points to end at 286.40 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 4.41% or 71.50 points to 1692.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 2.02% or 7.30 points to trade at 353.70 in late trade. Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA) declined 1.50% or 4.40 points to end at 288.00 and National Grid PLC (LON:NG) shed 1.49% or 13.00 points to 860.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1537 to 728 and 212 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.36% or 6.20 to $1731.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 3.71% or 2.17 to hit $60.73 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 3.92% or 2.43 to trade at $64.38 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.46% to 1.3795, while EUR/GBP fell 0.17% to 0.8549.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 92.718.
