Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, Life Insurance/Assurance and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.99%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 6.52% or 5.33 points to trade at 87.14 at the close. Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) added 4.31% or 43.50 points to end at 1,052.50 and BT Group PLC (LON:BT) was up 3.97% or 7.35 points to 192.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT), which lost 3.89% or 111.00 points to trade at 2,742.00 in late trade. AVEVA Group PLC (LON:AVV) declined 2.86% or 70.00 points to end at 2,379.00 and Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF) shed 2.57% or 224.00 points to 8,506.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1052 to 783 and 428 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.08% or 1.45 to $1,823.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.82% or 1.99 to hit $111.56 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.29% or 2.54 to trade at $113.52 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.64% to 1.22, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.07% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.56% at 104.26.
