Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Life Insurance/Assurance, Insurance and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.95%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG), which rose 3.05% or 139.5 points to trade at 4709.5 at the close. Surgutneftegaz L (LON:SNGSyq) added 3.01% or 0.22 points to end at 7.52 and St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP) was up 2.96% or 32.50 points to 1130.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 3.95% or 25.20 points to trade at 613.00 in late trade. Diageo PLC (LON:DGE) declined 1.44% or 46.0 points to end at 3146.5 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) shed 0.79% or 0.70 points to 88.34.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1349 to 796 and 204 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.46% or 7.25 to $1570.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.49% or 0.26 to hit $53.40 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.61% or 0.36 to trade at $58.94 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.38% to 1.3003, while EUR/GBP rose 0.37% to 0.8469.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 97.865.
