Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas Producers, Aerospace & Defense and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.94%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BP PLC (LON:BP), which rose 5.46% or 24.80 points to trade at 478.95 at the close. Weir Group PLC (LON:WEIR) added 4.15% or 73.00 points to end at 1,832.50 and Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) was up 3.84% or 31.40 points to 849.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pearson PLC (LON:PSON), which lost 2.99% or 29.00 points to trade at 939.60 in late trade. BT Group PLC (LON:BT) declined 2.51% or 2.75 points to end at 107.05 and Entain PLC (LON:ENT) shed 2.40% or 23.80 points to 966.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1027 to 719 and 708 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.45% or 9.15 to $2,052.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.11% or 0.81 to hit $73.59 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.12% or 0.87 to trade at $78.86 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.45% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.36% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 104.12.
