Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Tobacco, Beverage and Support Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.93% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Experian PLC (LON:EXPN), which rose 4.38% or 111.0 points to trade at 2647.0 at the close. Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) added 4.10% or 25.80 points to end at 655.00 and AVEVA Group PLC (LON:AVV) was up 3.99% or 145.0 points to 3775.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 4.42% or 79.6 points to trade at 1719.4 in late trade. Aviva PLC (LON:AV) declined 3.09% or 13.00 points to end at 407.40 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) shed 2.79% or 28.50 points to 992.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1401 to 870 and 204 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.90% or 15.65 to $1757.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.17% or 0.10 to hit $59.67 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.22% or 0.14 to trade at $63.30 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.09% to 1.3747, while EUR/GBP rose 0.32% to 0.8668.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.43% at 92.073.
