Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Travel & Leisure and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.91% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which rose 7.47% or 9.30 points to trade at 133.80 at the close. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) added 7.07% or 77.00 points to end at 1,166.50 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) was up 6.85% or 9.58 points to 149.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which lost 3.79% or 18.95 points to trade at 480.65 in late trade. BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES) declined 2.54% or 18.60 points to end at 713.00 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) shed 2.52% or 4.04 points to 156.44.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1336 to 624 and 388 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.39% or 27.05 to $1,912.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 2.40% or 2.54 to hit $103.42 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 2.25% or 2.46 to trade at $107.03 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 1.31, while EUR/GBP rose 1.08% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.56% at 98.50.
