Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Household Goods & Home Construction, Mobile Telecommunications and Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.90% to hit a new 3-year high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which rose 8.48% or 13.15 points to trade at 168.25 at the close. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) added 8.33% or 108.00 points to end at 1,404.50 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) was up 6.69% or 28.30 points to 451.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE), which lost 1.97% or 15.40 points to trade at 767.60 in late trade. AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN) declined 1.60% or 186.00 points to end at 11,448.00 and SSE PLC (LON:SSE) shed 1.33% or 22.50 points to 1,670.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1234 to 595 and 467 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.23% or 23.10 to $1,902.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.73% or 1.34 to hit $78.75 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.98% or 1.64 to trade at $84.31 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.86% to 1.22, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.18% to 0.89.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.07% at 101.82.
