Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Food & Drug Retailers and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.87% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX), which rose 3.23% or 375.00 points to trade at 11,995.00 at the close. Unilever PLC (LON:ULVR) added 3.13% or 129.50 points to end at 4,262.00 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) was up 2.53% or 20.80 points to 842.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which lost 3.69% or 55.00 points to trade at 1,436.00 in late trade. Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) declined 3.00% or 3.65 points to end at 118.10 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) shed 2.84% or 5.00 points to 171.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1071 to 731 and 502 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.66% or 12.45 to $1,862.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.80% or 0.64 to hit $80.36 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.37% or 0.32 to trade at $86.71 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.57% to 1.21, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.16% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 103.27.
