Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, Industrial Engineering and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.86% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT), which rose 16.08% or 115.00 points to trade at 830.00 at the close. Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) added 4.23% or 640.0 points to end at 15765.0 and Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) was up 3.91% or 135.0 points to 3584.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq), which lost 2.33% or 40.50 points to trade at 1694.50 in late trade. Phoenix Group Holdings PLC (LON:PHNX) declined 2.20% or 15.40 points to end at 684.60 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) shed 1.02% or 63.0 points to 6101.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1198 to 756 and 446 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.03% or 17.85 to $1749.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.00% or 0.68 to hit $67.61 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.01% or 0.71 to trade at $69.92 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.18% to 1.3868, while EUR/GBP rose 0.00% to 0.8462.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 92.935.
