Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the General Industrial, Automobiles & Parts and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.86% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Babcock International Group PLC (LON:BAB), which rose 3.90% or 20.60 points to trade at 549.20 at the close. Coca Cola HBC AG (LON:CCH) added 3.10% or 81.0 points to end at 2694.0 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) was up 3.06% or 28.00 points to 941.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 6.32% or 56.00 points to trade at 830.80 in late trade. Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) declined 1.92% or 4.30 points to end at 219.20 and WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LON:MRW) shed 1.40% or 3.35 points to 236.25.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1181 to 875 and 324 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.12% or 1.55 to $1315.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.20% or 1.17 to hit $54.27 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 2.11% or 1.32 to trade at $63.74 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.20% to 1.2865, while EUR/GBP fell 0.11% to 0.8772.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.32% at 96.812.
