Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas Producers, Industrial Metals & Mining and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.84%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BP PLC (LON:BP), which rose 2.64% or 12.65 points to trade at 492.65 at the close. InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) added 2.49% or 144.00 points to end at 5,934.00 and Shell PLC (LON:SHEL) was up 2.38% or 56.50 points to 2,428.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF), which lost 3.42% or 510.00 points to trade at 14,395.00 in late trade. Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) declined 3.39% or 84.00 points to end at 2,391.00 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) shed 3.35% or 19.50 points to 562.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1013 to 596 and 528 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.46% or 8.95 to $1,950.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.70% or 0.58 to hit $83.50 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.70% or 0.60 to trade at $86.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.40% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 102.20.
