Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Beverage, Life Insurance/Assurance and Chemicals sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.82%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which rose 2.78% or 61.00 points to trade at 2,257.00 at the close. Croda International PLC (LON:CRDA) added 2.77% or 152.00 points to end at 5,640.00 and Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF) was up 2.47% or 355.00 points to 14,750.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO), which lost 3.27% or 162.00 points to trade at 4,793.00 in late trade. Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) declined 2.35% or 255.00 points to end at 10,580.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 1.78% or 9.80 points to 539.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 961 to 661 and 507 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.02% or 0.35 to $1,950.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.40% or 1.18 to hit $83.22 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.02% or 0.89 to trade at $86.66 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.06% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.38% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 102.21.
