Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the General Retailers, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.80%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY), which rose 12.27% or 6.46 points to trade at 59.13 at the close. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) added 11.52% or 19.20 points to end at 185.85 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) was up 11.52% or 67.60 points to 654.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 3.58% or 23.40 points to trade at 630.80 in late trade. British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) declined 3.56% or 100.00 points to end at 2710.00 and WPP PLC (LON:WPP) shed 3.40% or 32.80 points to 931.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1468 to 685 and 177 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.75% or 11.20 to $1489.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.61% or 0.86 to hit $54.41 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.91% or 1.13 to trade at $60.23 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.76% to 1.2658, while EUR/GBP fell 1.27% to 0.8730.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.45% at 97.968.
