Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Electrical and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.78%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Barclays PLC (LON:BARC), which rose 5.18% or 5.80 points to trade at 117.76 at the close. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) added 4.81% or 104.0 points to end at 2268.0 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) was up 4.45% or 42.0 points to 986.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which lost 1.73% or 37.00 points to trade at 2105.00 in late trade. Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) declined 1.65% or 26.0 points to end at 1550.0 and Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) shed 1.52% or 30.0 points to 1945.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1183 to 960 and 148 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.26% or 4.75 to $1799.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.36% or 0.54 to hit $40.16 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.25% or 0.53 to trade at $42.88 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.16% to 1.2625, while EUR/GBP fell 0.01% to 0.8951.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 96.623.
