Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Chemicals, Life Insurance/Assurance and Healthcare Equipment & Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.73%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 5.90% or 72.50 points to trade at 1,300.50 at the close. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) added 5.15% or 27.80 points to end at 568.00 and Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) was up 4.08% or 32.00 points to 815.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU), which lost 1.50% or 14.60 points to trade at 961.60 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 1.24% or 7.00 points to end at 557.50 and Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) shed 1.04% or 27.00 points to 2,566.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1039 to 585 and 519 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.61% or 11.70 to $1,929.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.96% or 0.67 to hit $70.53 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.11% or 0.83 to trade at $75.34 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.86% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.34% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.49% at 102.50.
