Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Tobacco and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.68% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 5.71% or 111.50 points to trade at 2,063.00 at the close. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) added 4.20% or 19.05 points to end at 472.50 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 3.34% or 77.00 points to 2,380.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which lost 3.90% or 19.30 points to trade at 475.60 in late trade. Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq) declined 2.26% or 32.00 points to end at 1,382.00 and Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:SMT) shed 2.16% or 15.40 points to 696.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 901 to 759 and 492 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.48% or 9.50 to $1,971.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.43% or 0.32 to hit $75.61 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.19% or 0.15 to trade at $79.61 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.63% to 1.29, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.06% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.64% at 100.63.
