Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Industrial Transportation and Electrical sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.68%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Babcock International Group PLC (LON:BAB), which rose 10.39% or 43.30 points to trade at 460.00 at the close. Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) added 6.42% or 12.70 points to end at 210.60 and Merlin Entertainments PLC (LON:MERL) was up 5.45% or 19.50 points to 377.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Old Mutual Ltd (LON:OMU), which lost 3.53% or 4.20 points to trade at 114.66 in late trade. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) declined 2.17% or 10.40 points to end at 468.40 and Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB) shed 1.83% or 106.00 points to 5676.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1306 to 843 and 209 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.10% or 1.25 to $1284.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.98% or 0.57 to hit $58.48 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.97% or 0.66 to trade at $68.42 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.56% to 1.2725, while EUR/GBP fell 0.26% to 0.8809.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 97.442.
