Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Beverage, Electrical and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.66%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which rose 3.84% or 53.50 points to trade at 1446.50 at the close. Auto Trader Group Plc (LON:AUTOA) added 3.06% or 17.20 points to end at 579.20 and Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:SMT) was up 2.93% or 17.00 points to 598.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 3.08% or 20.40 points to trade at 642.00 in late trade. Surgutneftegaz L (LON:SNGSyq) declined 2.19% or 0.15 points to end at 6.94 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC B (LON:RDSb) shed 1.84% or 36.8 points to 1963.2.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1104 to 1093 and 176 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.37% or 5.95 to $1581.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.00% or 1.03 to hit $50.53 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 2.83% or 1.60 to trade at $55.02 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.46% to 1.3006, while EUR/GBP rose 1.27% to 0.8506.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.42% at 97.625.
