Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Healthcare Equipment & Services, Mobile Telecommunications and Media sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.61%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Unilever PLC (LON:ULVR), which rose 4.57% or 188.0 points to trade at 4303.0 at the close. Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) added 4.50% or 19.60 points to end at 455.00 and Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) was up 4.05% or 71.5 points to 1838.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT), which lost 5.73% or 15.80 points to trade at 259.90 in late trade. Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) declined 5.07% or 24.60 points to end at 461.10 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) shed 4.69% or 6.40 points to 129.95.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1122 to 1078 and 120 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.68% or 11.60 to $1710.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 10.59% or 2.65 to hit $22.38 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 5.56% or 1.56 to trade at $26.52 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.31% to 1.2460, while EUR/GBP rose 0.38% to 0.8719.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 99.972.
