Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Industrial Metals & Mining and General Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.59% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were St. James's Place PLC (LON:SJP), which rose 3.15% or 14.80 points to trade at 484.80 at the close. Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) added 2.92% or 265.00 points to end at 9,350.00 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 2.69% or 12.45 points to 476.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rightmove PLC (LON:RMV), which lost 5.52% or 31.60 points to trade at 541.20 in late trade. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) declined 2.37% or 10.30 points to end at 423.60 and Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND) shed 1.84% or 12.50 points to 668.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1196 to 605 and 717 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.21% or 28.30 to $2,368.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.69% or 0.55 to hit $78.71 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.72% or 0.60 to trade at $83.28 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.09% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 105.19.
