Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.58%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO), which rose 4.55% or 260.00 points to trade at 5,972.00 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 4.20% or 66.00 points to end at 1,636.00 and BHP Group PLC (LON:BHPB) was up 3.92% or 99.00 points to 2,626.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which lost 12.05% or 175.00 points to trade at 1,277.50 in late trade. Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) declined 4.18% or 19.60 points to end at 449.50 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) shed 4.10% or 5.05 points to 118.15.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 907 to 900 and 485 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.45% or 8.35 to $1,845.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.12% or 0.09 to hit $77.14 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.40% or 0.33 to trade at $83.78 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.02% to 1.20, while EUR/GBP rose 0.83% to 0.89.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.44% at 104.36.
