Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Construction & Materials, Travel & Leisure and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.58% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 4.75% or 40.20 points to trade at 886.80 at the close. Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:SMT) added 4.03% or 29.80 points to end at 768.80 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) was up 3.36% or 3.64 points to 112.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Barclays PLC (LON:BARC), which lost 7.86% or 14.72 points to trade at 172.60 in late trade. Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) declined 6.77% or 64.20 points to end at 883.60 and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq) shed 3.09% or 38.50 points to 1,209.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 966 to 825 and 479 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.10% or 20.55 to $1,844.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.91% or 0.72 to hit $78.34 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.62% or 0.53 to trade at $85.05 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.35% to 1.20, while EUR/GBP rose 0.78% to 0.89.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.80% at 103.95.
