Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.56%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 5.32% or 85.00 points to trade at 1,682.00 at the close. Endeavour Mining PLC (LON:EDV) added 4.36% or 60.00 points to end at 1,437.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 4.22% or 20.27 points to 501.17 in late trade.
Biggest losers included HALEON PLC (LON:HLN), which lost 2.51% or 8.05 points to trade at 313.35 in late trade. Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN) declined 2.48% or 27.50 points to end at 1,080.50 and Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) shed 2.29% or 9.20 points to 393.10.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1214 to 748 and 487 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.44% or 8.85 to $2,016.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.73% or 1.29 to hit $75.66 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.28% or 1.02 to trade at $80.57 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.49% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.08% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.49% at 102.89.
