Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.56% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 3.65% or 29.40 points to trade at 834.40 at the close. Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) added 3.22% or 6.30 points to end at 202.20 and Old Mutual Ltd (LON:OMU) was up 2.28% or 2.56 points to 114.64 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG), which lost 4.64% or 248.00 points to trade at 5100.00 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 2.73% or 22.20 points to end at 789.80 and Next PLC (LON:NXT) shed 2.41% or 138.00 points to 5578.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1241 to 739 and 196 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.13% or 15.15 to $1330.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $53.98 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.54% or 0.34 to trade at $62.95 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.38% to 1.2686, while EUR/GBP rose 0.01% to 0.8918.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 96.740.
