Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Industrial Transportation and General Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.53% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Next PLC (LON:NXT), which rose 3.47% or 192.00 points to trade at 5,732.00 at the close. Phoenix Group Holdings PLC (LON:PHNX) added 3.33% or 19.20 points to end at 596.00 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) was up 3.32% or 33.00 points to 1,026.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 1.96% or 2.85 points to trade at 142.45 in late trade. Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) declined 1.91% or 19.00 points to end at 978.60 and Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN) shed 1.35% or 21.50 points to 1,575.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1097 to 702 and 490 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.53% or 9.35 to $1,753.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 3.47% or 2.83 to hit $78.81 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 3.30% or 2.96 to trade at $86.82 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.16% to 1.19, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.43% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 106.83.
