Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas Producers, Automobiles & Parts and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.50%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BP PLC (LON:BP), which rose 4.29% or 21.90 points to trade at 532.70 at the close. Shell PLC (LON:SHEL) added 4.18% or 96.50 points to end at 2,405.00 and Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) was up 2.31% or 43.00 points to 1,907.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 2.86% or 21.00 points to trade at 713.20 in late trade. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) declined 2.60% or 12.10 points to end at 452.50 and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq) shed 2.48% or 30.50 points to 1,198.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 998 to 855 and 463 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.74% or 14.65 to $2,000.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 6.48% or 4.90 to hit $80.57 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 6.16% or 4.92 to trade at $84.81 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.48% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.06% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 101.91.
