Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Electrical and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.48% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX), which rose 3.50% or 550.0 points to trade at 16255.0 at the close. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) added 2.93% or 2.02 points to end at 71.00 and GMK Norilskiy Nikel PAO DRC (LON:NKELyq) was up 2.71% or 0.80 points to 30.38 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 6.14% or 15.20 points to trade at 232.30 in late trade. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) declined 4.58% or 67.0 points to end at 1395.4 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 2.35% or 21.00 points to 872.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1338 to 579 and 489 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.35% or 6.35 to $1804.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.46% or 0.35 to hit $76.33 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.27% or 0.21 to trade at $78.88 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.36% to 1.3483, while EUR/GBP fell 0.07% to 0.8410.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 95.935.
