Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Tobacco and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.47%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which rose 4.89% or 40.40 points to trade at 866.20 at the close. Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) added 4.37% or 13.90 points to end at 331.80 and London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSE) was up 4.17% or 188.00 points to 4695.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Relx PLC (LON:REL), which lost 6.85% or 118.50 points to trade at 1610.50 in late trade. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) declined 5.24% or 50.00 points to end at 905.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 4.19% or 36.00 points to 824.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1343 to 744 and 351 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.19% or 15.65 to $1300.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 2.31% or 1.32 to hit $55.90 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 2.13% or 1.41 to trade at $64.90 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.38% to 1.3211, while EUR/GBP rose 0.40% to 0.8606.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 96.368.
