Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Banking and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.45%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC), which rose 4.74% or 8.50 points to trade at 187.80 at the close. Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) added 3.86% or 22.50 points to end at 606.00 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) was up 3.44% or 9.00 points to 270.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which lost 2.34% or 175.00 points to trade at 7300.00 in late trade. National Grid PLC (LON:NG) declined 1.90% or 17.90 points to end at 925.30 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 1.62% or 23.00 points to 1399.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1076 to 879 and 429 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.93% or 12.16 to $1289.54 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.40% or 0.21 to hit $52.09 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.67% or 0.39 to trade at $57.53 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.43% to 1.3401, while EUR/GBP rose 0.07% to 0.8769.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.38% at 93.16.
