Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Tobacco, Construction & Materials and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which rose 4.51% or 57.00 points to trade at 1322.00 at the close. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) added 2.94% or 18.00 points to end at 631.00 and BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES) was up 2.33% or 13.50 points to 594.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which lost 3.78% or 74.00 points to trade at 1882.00 in late trade. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) declined 3.16% or 235.00 points to end at 7200.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 2.97% or 46.00 points to 1501.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 940 to 842 and 450 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.87% or 11.22 to $1279.18 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.23% or 0.11 to hit $47.48 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.28% or 0.14 to trade at $50.59 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.83% to 1.2858, while EUR/GBP rose 0.41% to 0.9124.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.43% at 93.74.
