Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs, Automobiles & Parts and General Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.43% to hit a new 3-year high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICP), which rose 4.19% or 51.00 points to trade at 1,268.50 at the close. St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP) added 3.96% or 45.50 points to end at 1,195.50 and Segro Plc (LON:SGRO) was up 3.44% or 27.20 points to 818.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which lost 6.82% or 155.00 points to trade at 2,117.00 in late trade. Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG) declined 2.44% or 280.00 points to end at 11,180.00 and Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN) shed 2.36% or 6.10 points to 252.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1168 to 676 and 448 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.17% or 3.15 to $1,879.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 3.18% or 2.39 to hit $77.51 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 3.13% or 2.51 to trade at $82.61 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.16% to 1.21, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.36% to 0.89.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 103.02.
