Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Tobacco and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.42% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hiscox Ltd (LON:HSX), which rose 3.18% or 42.00 points to trade at 1362.00 at the close. British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) added 3.15% or 94.00 points to end at 3080.00 and Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) was up 3.13% or 42.00 points to 1385.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which lost 3.40% or 25.20 points to trade at 715.80 in late trade. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) declined 2.37% or 4.75 points to end at 195.95 and Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG) shed 2.09% or 40.00 points to 1875.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1223 to 904 and 211 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.39% or 5.75 to $1461.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.79% or 0.46 to hit $57.95 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.52% or 0.33 to trade at $62.88 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.26% to 1.2898, while EUR/GBP fell 0.41% to 0.8527.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 98.330.
